A geographic name database for virtually every place in the U.S.

 

Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names

Contains "around 1,000,000 names and other information about places. The TGN includes all continents and nations of the modern political world, as well as historical places. It includes physical features and administrative entities, such as cities and nations."

Comparisons of thousands of cities, including cost of living, schools, and crime rates.

Mapquest includes road maps, driving directions, traffic conditions, and road construction for selected cities.

 

TerraServer

Terraserver contains complete, easy-to-use topographic and aerial maps of the entire U.S. in several different scales. It is searchable by address, by name, and by latitude and longitude, and it has an index to aerial photos of many famous places in the United States. Use it in conjunction with the Topographic Map Symbols guide, which is the key to the many map symbols used in topographic maps.
